ABC's "Scandal" Season 6 will air two months after the 2016 US Presidential Elections. And while the United States of America would have elected and inaugurated president-elect Donald J. Trump by then, the television series will just begin the insane cycle up to election night. Who will win the White House? Will they be Republican nominees Mellie Grant and Jake Ballard, or Democrats Frank Vargas and Cyrus Beene?
But apart from who will win the presidential elections, "Scandal" Season 6 might also see renewed sparks between Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and incumbent President Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn). Will they find their way back into each other's arms again?
What to expect from 'Scandal' Season 6
After months of agonized wait, ABC finally announced the return of "Scandal" Season 6 on January 19, 2017 to reclaim its spot in ABC's "Thank God It's Thursday" lineup. As previously reported, the show will kick off right in the thick of election nights, as the ballots are counted in and the electoral votes come crawling in.
Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) is heavily favored to win the presidency, especially given her associations with Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton. But will she lose just like the former secretary of state? The "Scandal" Season 6 trailer seemed to hint at it, especially after a heated exchange between Mellie and Olivia as she says she's "done running for president."
Liv and Fitz back together again
The "Scandal" Season 6 trailer also revealed a vulnerable moment between crisis manager Olivia Pope and incumbent president Fitz Grant, who were briefly seen hugging during a highly distressful time. Reports speculated that the runup to elections night might have brought them back together again. But what about poor Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), who is currently Liv's flame and vice presidential nominee? Stay tuned for more "Scandal" Season 6 news and updates.
