Nintendo announced, Tuesday morning, at its "Nintendo Direct" video conference that Super Smash Bro. is coming to both Wii U and 3DS along with a new Super Mario 3D World.
From the looks of the lengthy trailer, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is visually going for a more cell shaded look while the Wii U version sees the series heading into a more HD experience. The only new characters confirmed are Animal Crossing's "The Villager" and Capcom's Mega Man. This comes as Super Smash Bros. Brawl featured special playable characters Sonic The Hedgehog and Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake.
Super Mario 3D World is being developed by the same team behind Super Mario Galaxy. Outside of Mario, players can choose between Toad, Luigi and Princess Peach. All four characters will have special attributes that may remind many of Super Mario Bros 2 on the original NES including Princess Peach's ability to float, Toad being faster and Luigi jumping higher. The only new power-up shown was one that turned Mario into a cat who's abilities include wall climbing and scratch attacks.
One of the most visually better reveals was Mario Kart 8. Along with the return of Bikes from Mario Kart Wii, a new hover craft mechanic that'll automatically transform a cart a certain parts of a track is being introduced. Nintendo expects to create an even bigger online presence.
Retro Studios is making their Wii U debut through Donkey Kong Country Returns sequel Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
Though Nintendo didn't have a huge conference that rivaled Sony and Microsoft, the hardware maker has already announced that demos will be at Best Buys around the U.S. Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be playable.
When it comes to third party support, Nintendo has plenty of plans in store including delivering a new trailer for it's PlatinumGames exclusive Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 Sega's Sonic Lost World. Expect over ten multi-platform games plans on making their way to the Wii U like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins and Disney Infinity.
Expect GameNGuide to deliver hands-on previews once the show floor opens at noon.
