Grand Theft Auto 5 is the next biggest thing from Rockstar North and is easily one of the highly anticipated titles of the year. While we are getting ready for this year’s E3 where the game surely has a presence, there’s already something to look toward ahead of the big reveal.
There’s a brand new preview of the game done by EDGE which reveals some new details about the game and states that players will be able to switch between the already revealed three protagonists anytime the player wishes when he isn’t on a mission.
As far as the characters are concerned, EDGE writes that the game comprises of “notionally retired heist mastermind Michael, adrenaline junkie and car lover Franklin, and Trevor, an unhinged headcase with a taste for an altogether different kind of buzz.”
The report also states that each of these characters has their own interests, “and it seems that GTA V’s vast array of activities and minigames will be divided up between them according to their individual tastes.” All the characters will stick to one area of the map, and will help players move about the in-game massive world much quickly. And this is something new in the franchise and has been intentionally done in order to allow the player explore the entire in-game world.
For example, as the report says: “We open with Franklin, who’s about to jump out of a helicopter 1,000 feet up in the hazy Blaine County sky. When we switch to Trevor, he’s waking up on a beach in the middle of nowhere, but he’s blood-spattered, bottle in hand, and in his underwear. Michael is just stepping out of the Von Crastenburg hotel in Vinewood at dusk.”
The timing in the game will also be better manipulated this time around, and it will sometime pass as soon as the player makes the switch between Michael, Trevor and Franklin. This transition, which will be handled by satellite, allows Rockstar to delicately push the story forward when there's nothing happening.
To add more to the already exciting prospect of the game, The Lost, the Liberty City biker gang from GTA 4’s first DLC expansion, makes a comeback. This is also the first time that the franchise will see regenerating health for the characters.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently scheduled for a Sept. 17 release on Xbox 360 and PS3.
