'Persona 5: The Game' Release Date, News & Updates: Mechanics For 'Persona 5' Revealed

"Persona 5" is a role playing game developed by Atlus for Play Station 3 and 4. Persona 5 is chronologically the sixth in the "Persona" series, which is part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise. The game takes place in Tokyo and features a group of troubled high school students known as "The Phantom Thieves of Hearts."

The game follows the adventures of a group of high school students as they explore a supernatural realm called "The Palace" with the goal of stealing evil intent in the hearts of adults. Similar to previous game titles in the series, the team fights supernatural enemies using manifestations of their psyche known as Personas.

"Persona 5" will allow gamers a chance to play as any member of "The Phantom Thieves of "Hearts." The members include the leader (Silent Protagonist), problem child (Ryuuji Sakamoto), Japanese American girl (Ann Tamaki), art student (Yusuke Kitagawa), the mysterious (Morgana), the computer programmer (Futaba Sakura) and Beauty Thief (Haru Okumura).

In terms of gameplay, "Persona 5" will take place across the game's timeline which in this case, the entire school year. According to Trusted Reviews, this gives gamers plenty of chances to make friends, pass classes, and pursue social interactions with specific characters. Gamers will be able to explore a large portion of Tokyo in between school and raiding dungeons. Part time Jobs were also added alongside school activities to aid character progression.

In addition, elements of "Persona 5" such as its dungeons will now be fortified with unique stealth and combat sections to fit each battle scenario. Atlus has also confirmed that there will be new ways of obtaining Personas, although details of this latest feature is yet to be known. Lastly, "Persona 5" introduces an improved version of its social interaction dynamics. The interaction and relationships between characters has always been considered as the highlight of the franchise.

"Persona 5" is out now in Japan, making the wait for an English version all the more agonizing. Impressively, it has sold well over 500,000 copies across PS4 and PS3, making it one of Japan's best-selling titles of 2016. Polygon reported that the game will be released in the US and Europe on April 4, 2017 after being delayed from its last release date.
