NBA 2K14 trailer teases next gen game reveal set for June 6

Since 1999, every year, 2K Sports releases a new title in their long running NBA series. This year looks no different. 2K Sports has just released a trailer which teases a major announcement for the series. The trailer shows a mix of footage from NBA 2K13 before ending on the date 6/6/13 and the twitter jargon #SixSix13.

News from the announcement will most likely feature an insight into what to expect from NBA 2K14. Like the rest of the games in the series, NBA 2K14 will release late this year to coincide with the start of the NBA season. The game's launch will also come as Sony and Microsoft prepare to launch their next gen consoles. The Playstation 4 and Xbox One are expected to be released late this year.

June 6 overlaps perfectly with the start of the NBA Finals. This year's finals will see the Miami Heat take on the San Antonio Spurs in a best of seven series. In an ironic twist, no player to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K13 will be featured in this year's finals.

NBA 2K13 cover featured Chicago Bull Derrick Rose, LA Clipper Blake Griffin and Oklahoma City Thunder Kevin Durant. The game added new features to the series. NBA 2K13 came with updates to the My Player Mode and the Shoe Creator.

Those who pre-ordered the game also received the All-Star Weekend DLC. The DLC added All-Star Weekend events to the game for the first time. Players who played the DLC could take part in Slam Dunk Contests, Three Point Shootouts and the Rising Star Challenge.

NBA 2K14 doesn't look to be the only NBA game to come out for next generation consoles. EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen reported last month that a new game in the NBA Live franchise will be released for Xbox One and Playstation 4. The game would be the first NBA Live game to released since 2010.

Jorgensen gave no precise release date or additional information for the title. However, EA has confirmed that all future sports titles it releases will use its new Ignite Game Engine. The engine is specifically being built for next gen titles.
