Kinect-powered Doodle Jump hitting Xbox 360 this summer

Doodle Jump launched on iOS in 2009. The popular title saw success in the early days of mobile gaming. Since originally launching the game has been ported to Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Symbian. After finding success on mobile platforms, Doodle Jump is now coming to the Xbox 360. The game's publisher Lima Sky is adapting the touch screen controls of the mobile game for the Kinect.

In a press release uncovered by Joystiq, Lima Sky co-founder Igor Pusenjak says the Xbox 360 game will be unlike any previous port of the game. He reports that the Xbox 360 version of Doodle Jump was one of the more exciting versions of the title to work on.

"We've brought the Doodler onto new platforms before, but never like this. The unparalleled freedom afforded by Kinect for Xbox 360 allows us to explore new gameplay experiences we never even imagined were possible when we first developed the original Doodle Jump," says Pusenjak.

The game will let gamers use the Kinect motion gestures to fly, shoot, move left and move right. Players will use the Kinect by flapping their arms to fly. They will move left and right to movie their virtual character. As well as, make hand gestures to shoot weapons.

Doodle Jump for Kinect will also feature three new levels, added bosses, additional power-ups and Xbox exclusive achievements. Lima Sky will release the game on the Xbox Live Arcade for $5 or 400 Microsoft points. The game does not have a precise launch date yet. However, Lima Sky says the game will launch later this summer.

When Doodle Jump launched in 2009 it proved a success for the mobile gaming industry. The game is the third most successful paid iOS app in history. By 2011, Doodle Jump sold over 10 million apps on both iOS and Android. In total, gamers bought over 15 million Doodle Jump apps across all platforms.  The game's simple but addictive gameplay became a template for other games in the sector. Games such as Sonic Jump used the basic formula of Doodle Jump with the added benefit of different layouts.

The title adds to the various games currently available on the Kinect. Major franchises such as Gears of War have seen ports for the motion control add-on. Gears of War: Tactics is a rumored real-time strategy game set in the Gears of War universe. The game will reportedly be optimized for the Kinect.
