Bucking the odds, Bill Goldberg came out the winner against Brock Lesnar at WWE Survivor Series in record time. No one gave the WCW/WWE icon a chance seeing how Goldberg has not wrestled the last 12 years and is facing someone who has manhandled opponents both in the WWE and UFC.
It took two spears and one jackhammer for Goldberg to finish off Lesnar in what would, later on, be explained, WWE.com reported. Goldberg was dealing with a tweaked shoulder and didn’t get ample time to train though the gist of it all is that there will be a third match.
That will likely happen at Wrestlemania 33 though there are some who sounded off at perhaps booking other opponents. Names like John Cena, Undertaker or even Sting have been mentioned though it all depends on what direction the WWE is going with Goldberg.
For Lesnar, the loss is not expected to tarnish his record. But at falling 0-2 against Goldberg doesn’t justify why a third match would be needed, Wrestlingnews.co reported. There has to be some sort of storyline to squeeze in, something that is mind-boggling to make a third encounter interesting.
Recall that the first match at Wrestlemania 20 was not exactly the best one Goldberg and Lesnar had while the second one is likely not far behind. Doing the math, it makes no sense to see a third match without sufficient reason.
Lesnar may have given this encounter to Goldberg, both of whom are actually good friends outside the ring. Goldberg took the match for his wife and son, not to mention stand against bullies.
Also, it begs to ask if all is truly well between Goldberg and Vince McMahon. Have the two made amends and agreed to deal that would carry on for more pay-per-views to come?
It remains to be seen if Lesnar, Paul Heyman or even Goldberg will address the feat. Whatever the plan is, such has left WWE fans stunned and thinking.
