Arguably the most popular and infamous of all the Mortal Kombat characters is officially slated to arrive to the world of Injustice: Gods Among Us, the flame spewing ninja spectre Scorpion.
All of the undead assassin's classic moves are present in this version: spear toss, air throw, teleport punch, fire summoning, scissor trip, and flaming kick. Even some of the "kombos" are familiar looking. But this Scorpion comes with a different look than we last saw in the Mortal Kombat reboot. This version of Scorpion was designed by Jim Lee, the artist behind the current defining image of both Batman and Superman, as well as one of the talents behind the re-launched version of DC comics, "The New 52."
Rumors of the ninja's inclusion as a potential DLC character for Injustice started circulating late last month. Having been a mainstay of the Mortal Kombat series since it began in '92, Scoprion's inclusion is understandable, even if he seems a bit rough around the edges for the game. The ninja's addition echos NeatherRealms decisions of late to add more "out there" characters to its fighters, like it did adding "A Nightmare on Elm Street's" Freddy Krueger to 2009's Mortal Kombat. But a guy with bladed gloves is definitely more of a welcome fit for a game whose roster of characters can kill each other more ways than you can count.
His addition here makes it the second time he's fought against DC heroes and villains, the first being Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the final game from Midway before the company went bankrupt, and was eventually reborn as NeatherRealm Studios.
Exact dates for Scorpion's arrival haven't been mentioned yet, but when he does get here, he'll be available for download at the same price as the rest of the DLC characters: 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360, and/or $4.99 on PlayStation 3. It hasn't been said if he'll be available for Season Pass holders, nor if he'll be coming to Wii U versions. However, publisher Warner Bros. has said that DLC will be released for Nintendo's console some time this summer.
You can watch Scorpion kick Supes butt all over the Batcave in his undead Black Lantern garb in the trailer below, as well as Lee and NeatherRealms head Ed Boon talk up the character a bit.
