Fans of the Man of Steel have more than a big movie to celebrate this year, as 2013 marks the official 75th anniversary of Superman. As such, DC Comics has plenty of fan-service to unleash on loyal fans long after the credits of Man of Steel have finished rolling.
While Zack Snyder has been making headlines for his work on the soon-to-be-released movie, fans can look forward to more content from the esteemed 300 and Watchmen director. According to Newsarama, Snyder will be working on a two minute short starring the Man of Steel. The video will be co-created by Bruce Timm, Peter Girardi, and Jay Olivia, and will be teased at San Diego Comic Con.
In honor of Clark Kent's 75 years in comic pages, television, and movies, DC issued a press release outlining the character's history while announcing even more media plans for the publisher's most iconic hero.
"In addition to being an enduring presence in pop culture for the last 75 years, he continues to be a commanding global icon. DC Entertainment and all of Warner Bros. look forward to celebrating this important, year-long anniversary for Superman," said DC president Diane Nelson.
Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's much-anticipated Superman: Unchained comic book series will kick off on June 12, just two days before Man of Steel soars into theaters everywhere. Cartoon Network's DC Nation programming block will feature Superman heavily this year, giving even the youngest fans a healthy dose of super-powered action.
Of course, there is already plenty of Superman-related content available this year for those devoted to the Son of Krypton. Superman is the central character of NetherRealm Studios' Injustice: Gods Among Us, a game that finds Clark battling with an alternate-universe, power-thirsty version of himself in an effort to restore peace. The Superman: Unbound animated film just hit shelves early in May, which should help hold over hardcore fans until the live action movie launches in two weeks.
