"Injustice 2," the sequel to the hit DC Comics fighting game "Injustice: Gods Among Us," is coming soon. Because the game is made by NetherRealm Studios, the same house that's in charge of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise now, they've taken the opportunity to cross characters over from both series. This time, someone from "Mortal Kombat" will be appearing in "Injustice 2."
In a little statement Ed Boon sent out on his Twitter account, he revealed that NetherRealm seems to officially be taking into consideration the results of a poll he ran. The poll on Twitter asked which "Mortal Kombat" character would be a best fit for "Injustice 2." Sub-Zero ran away with a little over half the total votes, with movie star Johnny Cage coming in second with 23% of the vote, thunder god Raiden getting 20%, and special forces Jax Briggs finishing dead last with 5%.
Boon also ran a second Twitter poll, according to Attack of the Fanboy. In this one, he asked the fans which non-"Mortal Kombat" character they'd want to see included in "Injustice 2." For this one, comic book character Spawn won an overwhelming majority of the vote, beating Hellboy, Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Spawn had already appeared in a fighting game a long time ago, Namco's "Soul Calibur 3." It makes sense that he would be in another fighting game centered full of fellow comic book characters, but whether this appearance would be better than his "Soul Calibur 3" one remains to be seen.
NetherRealms is working on "Injustice 2" already, targeting an unspecified 2017 release date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS, and Android. No word yet on whether there will be a PC release, but considering both "Mortal Kombat XL" and "Injustice: Gods Among Us" were available on Steam, it's likely that the game will be ported.
