While "Pokemon Sun and Moon" has now been officially launched, many players are still torn between the two versions. Here's a guide to help you choose between "Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon," along with their similarities and differences.
"Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon"
Like any other "Pokemon" generations, "Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon" are two separate games in the franchise. They both retail for $39.99 each at Gamestop. There is also a bundle for players to get both games through the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" Dual Pack. This bundle costs $79.99.
Alolan Pokemon and Game Time
Also, sticking to the "Pokemon" franchise tradition, several creatures in "Pokemon Sun" differ from the ones found in "Pokemon Moon." The former will see Passimian, a Fighting-type Pokemon. The latter will then encounter Oranguru, a Normal/Psychic-type Pokemon. The evolution of Rockruff is also affected by the version, with Midday Lycanroc for "Pokemon Sun" and Midnight Lycanroc for "Pokemon Moon."
The time inside the game is also different between the two "Pokemon Sun and Moon" games. The Sun acquires the current time in the player's Nintendo 3DS, while the Moon sets the time 12 hours ahead.
Legendaries and Cross-Version Trading
Legendary Pokemon also differ between the two "Pokemon Sun and Moon" offerings. The Psychic/Steel-type Pokemon Solgaleo will be feature in "Pokemon Sun." It could transform into a Radiant Sun phase, and acquires the Sunsteel Strik and Full Metal Body Ability. "Pokemon Moon," on the other hand, will feature the Psychic/Ghost Lunala. It could transform into a Full Moon phase, and has the Shadow Shield and Moongiest Beam. As per the other games in the "Pokemon" franchise, acquiring all Pokemon and Legendaries to the Pokedex requires cross-version trading.
Totem Pokemon
A new feature in "Pokemon Sun and Moon" is the Island Trials challenge. Here, players will have to face Totem Pokemon that differ in the two versions. The Melemele Island is home to Gumshoo in "Pokemon Sun," while Alolan Raticate inhabits it in "Pokemon Moon."
