The Game Awards is happening soon and its host and creator Geoff Keighly has some stern warning about game developers. "No Man's Sky" in particular set the standard of what not to do when developing games and Keighly acknowledges that.
In an interview with the Polygon, he said "There is a good moral of that story and it's part of what I'm trying to address this year; to have developers be more transparent about the state of their game."
He also said that, The Game Awards, which he also authored may have created too much hype that developers, specially Hello Games for "No Man's Sky" couldn't get out. He also said that, he knew the team lead by Sean Murray and it was an 8-man team and he didn't believe the vision will ever be achieved.
The Game Awards host said that, there's a great risk in advertising the game ahead of time. Fans will expect and they will think big about new games. That part of the gaming system took a toll not only in the "No Man's Sky" game, but the developer as well.
Geoff Keighly then continued saying, The Game Awards will provide more context on the games and it will also feature a "Let's Play" event that allows players to dig in the game for about five minutes; long enough to present the whole concept of the game.
Talking to developers, he also realized that one of their struggles is the trailer of the games only to disappoint fans in the future. Keighly mentioned Steam's Early Access wherein, it features still in-development games; something that these developers would like to do also.
