Conor McGregor is undoubtedly still on top of the world though some people like Floyd Mayweather Jr. still don’t see him as the big draw. To settle the row, the Irishman has agreed to face the undefeated American boxer if he is guaranteed to get $100 million cash.
Conor McGregor is coming off a big win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, something that allowed him to become the only UFC fighter to win two titles from separate divisions. Understandably, McGregor has been a popular commodity tied up to the WWE and now Mayweather.
According to Mayweather, there is no basis for comparison between the Irishman and him. On cue, Conor McGregor took exception and responded by saying he is willing to face Mayweather in a real boxing match but added that “Money” was afraid to get into a real fight, TMZ reported.
This issue is of course nothing new. Both went at it earlier this year when a rumor suggesting a fight between the two was teased. Mayweather was open to it and so was Conor McGregor. The only catch is that “The Notorious” wanted to be well compensated and now the figures are out, Fox Sports reported.
As far as seeing this one go down, it is still technically a long shot. Mayweather is undefeated and seems to be enjoying things on the management side. Aside from McGregor, his name has been lured to a possible rematch with Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao. Similar to the case of the Irishman, that too seems far from happening.
The exchange between McGregor and Mayweather is expected to go on moving forward. But as far as seeing a potential dream match, seeing a both personalities in the same ring (or Octagon) is already wishful thinking.
Right now, McGregor is taking a much-deserved break though he may return to action and defend either his UFC lightweight title or UFC featherweight title. For Mayweather, he hasn’t something close to even returning to the boxing ring.
