Despite the cancellation reports about "NCIS", there is still no accurate information released to verify the rumors. In the middle of the series' 13th season, Mark Harmon actually signed a two-year contract with NBC, which then renewed the show for two more seasons. This means that the show will continue up until the 15th season and with Harmon's return as Agent Gibbs.
Although the ratings of the show continue to fluctuate, "NCIS" still deserves to be capped as the most watched drama because it's still ongoing for almost a decade and a half. "It's extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit, 'NCIS' continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale," said CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller in a report from Christian Times.
Will Season 15 be NCIS' season finale?
"NCIS" 14th season will not be the show's last, but season 15 might be the end as CBS is yet to outline its plans for the show after that. The drama will still be shown up until 2018 even though there is still no confirmation whether it will be extended or not.
"It is a testimony to an amazing cast. For skilfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature "NCIS" signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week," Geller added.
Did Michael Weatherly's disappearance affect the ratings of the show?
Several reports have stated that the departure of Michael Weatherly from "NCIS" probably caused the huge dive of ratings. Weatherly played the role as Senior Agent Tony DiNozzo and left after the 13th season of the show. According to Counsheal, he left to headline his own CBS series entitled "Bull" but reports also say that he will still return in NCIS' 14th season.
With concerns about Weatherly's return in "NCIS", a lot are in doubt that he could change the continuous low ratings of the show. When he left, CBS added new characters to fill in his spot and the fans of his character might have already moved on. Thus, making his comeback in the show not really deemed necessary.
