Pixar fans rejoiced when the studio revealed their plan to continue the successful franchise with its fourth instalment. Many people concluded that it will end with the intense, fun and a tear-jerking trilogy. With the announcement of its fourth sequel, the fans got another shot to see their favorite Toy Story characters as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Potatohead and the whole mob come back on the big screen.
Toy Story 4 was officially revealed by Disney on November 6, 2014 during an investor's call. Director John Lasseter will again direct the film together with the brilliant writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
In a 2010 interview, Pixar Director Lee Unkrich indicated that the fourth instalment of the animated film is not being planned. But he shared his pleasure that people are keep on asking about the film.
"I'm flattered that people ask about it- it reminds me how much people love the characters, but it was really important to me with this film that we not just create another sequel, that it not just be another appendage coming off of the other two." He says.
Lasseter has shared that the studio decided to produce another instalment because of their "pure passion" for the animated series. He stated that:
"Toy Story 3 ended woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie- and I wanted to direct it myself."
In March 2015, Pixar President Jim Morris said that the film will not be a continuation of Toy Story 3 but will be a stand-alone sequel. Also, the great mind behind the Pixar's Inside Out, the head of story Josh Cooley is then named in Variety to be a co-director of Toy Story 4.
But Toy Story 4 will be taking more time to be shown contrary to what the fans previously expected. The animated film was first scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017, but the release date has been delayed to June 15, 2018, permitting Pixar Studio to give the original release schedule to Cars 3. But then it was announced that the film will be released on June 21, 2019. June 15, 2018 schedule is given to Incredibles 2.
