Just a day ago, we wrote that Evan Peters would join the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past to play the mutant speedster Quicksilver. And while the comic and movie realms are still buzzing over the news, it seems like director Bryan Singer decided to calm the fires a bit.
In his original tweet announcing that Evan Peters is coming to the X-films, singer wrote "Before he was an Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid." The tweet seems innocent enough, but suggests that SInger could be looking to take attention away from Quicksilver's role in Avengers 2 and pull audiences towards his own film.
The edit happened earlier Friday morning. Although the announcement of Quicksilver in both films sent comic fans spiraling in fantasies of a crossover film, a few inside sources suggest that the last thing that Fox and Marvel Studios want to do is share.
According to HitFix, X-Men: Days of Future Past has already begun filming while Avengers 2 is still in the negotiations stage. This means that Peters' take on Quicksilver will be the first one that audiences see. It will be interesting to see how either studios tackle the character's background, as Fox cannot mention the Avengers while Marvel will have to refrain from mentioning mutants and Magneto, sources tell HitFix.
Avengers 2 will presumably be taking place at a time not too long after the current phase of Marvel films, while Days of Future Past will take place during, well... all types of time frames. This means that both Singer and Joss Whedon's versions of Quicksilver could differ greatly in age and overall presentation, making the shared character not as much of a cause for concern. And while the big three companies behind the Marvel movies have never shared characters before, there would be a much bigger uproar if there were two different Wolverines or Spider-Men running around in films at the same time.
Do you think there's still hope for an X-Men and Avengers crossover, or will Marvel never truly share their toys? Superhero fans, assemble!
