Despite earlier statements to the contrary (deja vu, anyone?), EA still has a few plans for Nintendo's down but not out console, the Wii U.
EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen asserted during the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference that the the company is still developing games for Nintendo's home console. Granted, not as many as the PlayStation 4 or the recently unveiled Xbox One, but some.
Followed by some blistering comments from an EA engineer, the last word we heard on the matter from company mouthpiece Jeff Brown was "We have no games in development for the Wii U currently."
It'd be nice if you guys could make up your minds already.
Jorgensen's statements still seemed to indicate that a break with Nintendo was still a good possibility, saying, "You know, I think Nintendo's business was more [an] extension of their last console...I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it'll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go."
Up until Tuesday afternoon, EA's plan was to have the majority of their future games running on the Frostbite 3 Engine, including all the upcoming Star Wars games. However, due to poor results from Frostbite2, Frostbite 3 was never tested on the Wii U, so it was assumed that Nintendo would be missing out on quite a bit.
No official game announcements were made by EA. We'll keep you posted if they reveal any further plans.
