In what can be viewed as Niantic’s way of aiding Japan as far as tourism is concerned, a hard-to-find Pokemon may soon be spotted on “Pokemon Go”. The critter in mention is Lapras, one of the hardest “Pokemon Go” rares to spot.
Lapras is expected to spawn more at select areas, much of which was included in the latest update for “Pokemon Go”. For those unfamiliar with the Pokemon, Lapras is one of the rarely seen pocket monsters in four region-specific areas.
It was mentioned that while Niantic plans more “Pokemon Go” spawns, it will be limited to regions. The regions in mention will be the Tsunami-hit areas aimed at supporting the tourism of the affected areas, per reports.
The “Pokemon Go” areas which will see Lapras frequently include the coastlines of the Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, and Fukushima Prefecture. The event will reportedly last until Nov. 23 in an effort to entice people to plan their trips though people living near the defined areas can have a field day capturing the rare pocket monster.
Lapras is considered one of the most popular “Pokemon Go” characters to get, a critter gifted with good gestures and powers. This should be good to the hardcore gamers, particularly for the ones who don’t mind spending to nab the rarest Pokemon in region-specific areas.
As mentioned in a previous post, the plan on Lapras follows a similar tourism tactic done by Niantic back in September for “Pokemon Go”. This had to do with the region-specific eggs such as rare pocket monsters like “Mr. Mime” and “Kangaskhan” would have been big boosts over in Europe and Australia respectively.
While it covers only Japan, many are likely hoping that Niantic would do something similar to other regions. While it is understandable that a fortuitous event downed the area, more rare spawns aside from in-game events could help add and maintain the active player count for “Pokemon Go” for Niantic to retain its top spot in the app charts.
