An exclusive trailer launch for the "Ghost in The Shell 2017, a live-action adaptation of the classic manga and anime series " has been held in Tokyo, last November 13, 2016. The event aims to promote the upcoming film.
As some may recall, "Ghost in The Shell" is a Japanese media franchise originally as a sinen manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. Since then "Ghost in The Shell" has gained a lot of readers.
Currently, the "Ghost in the Shell's 2017"main character, Major, will be played by Scarlett Johansson, an American actress, model and singer. Because of this, last year campaigners angered at the paucity of the roles for east Asian actors in Hollywood which resulted into a petition calling for a dismissal from the forthcoming remake, The Guardian reports.

Moreover, the petition for "Ghost In The Shell" has thus further gathered more than 65,000 signature of the supporters. Even high-profile critics opposed for the alleged Whitewashing. One of these is Ming-Na Wen, who was the voice behind Disney's Mulan and who portrayed Melinda May in superhero TV show Agent of "Shield."
Also, it was even reported by Forbes that Shirow lacked any comments on the production. While he's arguably somewhat of a recluse, in recent years he's been more open with his fans and the press. His absence then resulted to a much curious controversy.
Does Shirow's mere silence suggests that he's against Scarlett Johansson playing the role of Major or was it because of the alleged Whitewashing?
