"The Blacklist" has thrown a lot of things to Liz in the show's four seasons. Despite this, nothing will ever prepare her, or the fans, for her "death" in "The Blacklist" Season 4.
Red Finally Confesses. Or Did He?
In the last episode of "The Blacklist" Season 4, Red, portrayed by James Spader, has been under the influence of drugs and was under a pain-induced trance. In a shocking revelation, he then admits that Liz, played by Megan Boone, is actually his daughter.
However, later in "The Blacklist" Sesaon 4 episode, Red had planted suspicion when his statement then turned into a series of questions. From Red's straightforward admission, the statement transformed into a painful dilemma. Red then asks his torturer if this is what he wants to hear, repeating the query over and over.
How Red Fell to Kirk
In the mid-season finale of "The Blacklist" Season 4, Alexander Kirk, played by Ulrich Thomsen, had once again kidnapped Liz. Throughout the season, he had been desperately attempting to save his life from a deadly disease. He had also constantly claimed to be Liz's true father.
As Red finds out that Kirk has Liz once again, the agent then made a deal with the captor to take him and let Liz go. While it was a truly brave gesture by Red, it proved to be a foolish one too. He willingly let himself under the control of the villain, which did not result to anything good in "The Blacklist" Season 4.
Katarina Rostova, Liz's mother and portrayed by Lotte Verbeek, had led Kirk to believe that Red is actually Liz's father. This led Kirk to put his new hostage through a series of tortures by inducing him with different drugs. He did this over and over, until Red had finally confessed in one of the most shocking, yet expected revelation in "The Blacklist" Season 4.
While much of the events in the latest episode of "The Blacklist" Season 4 are quite puzzling for the fans, lead writer Daniel Cerone had assured fans that all will make sense eventually. He said that Red's confession is actually part of a much grander plan that will be unfolded at the season's finale.
"The Blacklist" is now on its mid-season break. "The Blacklist" Season 4 Episode 9 will resume airing on January 5 in NBC.
