Mercedes X-Class News & Updates: Stylish Explorer-Inspired Model To Launch 2017 In Most Contients; U.S. Release Imminent?

There are talks that the Mercedes X-Class pickup will become available in 2017. According to Mercedes, the X-Class pickup will be especially marketed in Europe, South Africa, Australia and Latin America. It is still uncertain whether the vehicle will be sold in the United States.

MarketWatch stated that according to Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, they are still closely observing the U.S. market and evaluating the conditions of offering the pickup. The Mercedes X-Class is the newest product in an industrial partnership between Daimler and Renault-Nissan.

The Mercedes X-Class will be built by Nissan in Spain beginning in 2017. Renault will follow in 2018 in Argentina. According to the company, the Mercedes X-Class will feature a high-torque six-cylinder engine and permanent all-wheel-drive.

It can tow 3.5 tons while carrying a payload of over 1.1 tons. The Mercedes X-Class will also feature the same levels of driving dynamics, design, comfort and safety as standard Mercedes vehicles.

The upcoming Mercedes X-Class will cater to families with an active lifestyle and affinity to premium products, as well as outdoor enthusiasts who need a top quality vehicle that features both functionality and aesthetics. CEO Dieter Zetsche said that the Mercedes X-Class will fill one of the last remaining gaps in the company's product range.

Mercedes believes that more drivers are demanding midsize pickup trucks for both private and commercial use. Double cabs with a seating capacity of up to five are the most popular body style. During an event in Stockholm, Sweden, the car maker featured two concepts of the Mercedes X-Class.

The first Mercedes X-Class concept is the Stylish Explorer, which looks much like an SUV. The second is the Powerful Adventurer, which appears more like a traditional pickup truck.

Motoring reported that Gorden Wagener shared how most of the elements of the Stylish Explorer will be showcased in the upcoming Mercedes X-Class. Some of the features to expect include the angular headlights, wrap-around LED taillight and flared wheel arches.

The Powerful Adventurer may not reach production, but many of its accessories may become available. The company further believes that the Mercedes X-Class market will continue to grow by almost 40 percent by the year 2025.
