Gazillion Entertainment's Marvel Heroes MMO is only a few short weeks away, so what better way could Marvel amp up excitement for their new PC game than with a comic? How about a comic that moves.
Marvel just released a motion comic focusing on the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom, written by legendary Avengers author Brian Michael Bendis. The short, 2-minute clip features an airborne chase sequence between the Fantastic Four and their eternal nemesis, featuring all of the Human Torch one-liners a comic geek could ask for.
After Doom nearly sends the Human Torch into a freefall during the battle, he is eventually apprehended by the Invisible Woman's force field. However, a Doom soon creates a massive explosion of energy and quickly vanishes.
As the team ponders if Dr. Doom is gone for good, Mrs. Fantastic makes a point that all comic fans know too well:
"No one as egotistical as Victor Von Doom would kill themselves," said Sue Storm in the clip.
A villain as dangerous as Doom being on the loose could serve as a big plot point for Marvel Heroes, which will be available for PC on June 4th with a Mac release to follow shortly after. The game will allow fans to play as iconic heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-man, while exploring famous Marvel locales like the Avengers tower and the Savage Land.
Did you enjoy Bendis' moving comic clip? It's not Marvel's first foray into the medium, as previous motion comics such as Astonishing X-Men and Iron Man: Extremis are currently available for streaming on services such as Netflix. While the combination might feel awkward to some, the addition of voice work and real-time action adds a special liveliness that used to only exist in the minds of imaginative readers.
