After being stalled in March, we haven't heard much about the latest Rainbow Six game, but lately, it's been suggested that Ubisoft Toronto is currently underway on developing Rainbow Six: Patriots for next-gen systems.
VGLeaks is reporting as much, claiming the same source that unveiled the first screenshots from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
Seems likely enough, as while presenting their financial reports, Ubisoft spoke about two new and unannounced titles; one a completely new product, and the other "a game from a franchise we all know."
Ubisoft announced the game in November of 2011, but development came to a stop in March the following year when members of the development team were removed.
Things were quiet for a while, than in an interview with Polygon this past November, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that the game was still in development and could be a title for the next generation of video game consoles. "The only thing I can say is that we have a good team working on it, and it's really looking good," Guillemot told Polygon. "So when it will come, it will surprise the industry."
When asked, Guillemot said that he couldn't confirm that but "there's a good chance it can be."
Short of that, there's not much more information to go on apart from what we already know. The new game's plot centers around a group called the "True Patriots," a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists.
Ubisoft has yet to confirm if the game is coming to next-gen systems, but we'll keep you posted if any announcement is made.
