There might be some trouble ahead for the "X-Men" movie franchise and its studio, 20th Century Fox. It seems that they will be refreshing the Marvel's mutant series after the disappointing performance at the box office of "X-Men: Apocalypse" last May.
The latest "X-Men" franchise was directed by Bryan Singer, whiched earned $544 million globally. The profits were a large decline from"X-Men: Days of Future Past", which gained over $748 million.
Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult have all ended their 3-film contract from 20th Century Fox. The "X-Men: Apocalypse" cast members would cost a lot of money if the studio decides to do another movie with them, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Writer and Producer Simon Kinberg has been reported to be writing a new script, however, he is still writing with the previous "X-Men" cast in mind. However, the director of all four 20th Century "X-Men" films, Bryan Singer, won't be returning for a directorial role.
Aside from the "X-Men" franchise, "Deadpool 2" might also be at risk. After director Tim Miller stepped out from the film because of creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, the film's composer, Tom Holkenborg, aslo departed from the "Deadpool" sequel.
They are still in negotiations with "John Wick" director David Leitch. In a report by Independent UK, 20th Century Fox is still looking forward to a third "Deadpool" film where its plot will involve a new X-team and X-Force.
"Gambit" another offshoot film which stars Channing Tatum was unable to reach their goal to begin production this year. The initial director, Doug Liman exited the film last August. Gambit will hopefully start production after being kept on hold while Tatum is filming Steven Soderbergh's "Logan Lucky".
