Netherrealm Studio head Ed Boon took to twitter over the weekend, (unofficially) asking fans which DC hero or villain they'd like to see next as a playable character in the brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Boon offered players the choice between Power Girl, Doctor Fate, Blue Beetle, Static Shock, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, or Red Hood.
The poll has since closed, and it's clear enough that we won't be seeing at least two characters anytime soon. Boon tweeted that Zatanna lost the lead on Sunday, and Blue Beetle received the least amount of votes. While I love Jason Todd as the Red Hood, the Injustice roster is already a little heavy with Batman characters as it is.
I can't say I'm surprised at the amount of interest Blue Beetle received. Even the most well known version of the Beetle, Ted Kord, lacks both the history and familiarity with the audience to ever show up alongside the rest of the Injustice roster. Static Shock is an intersting concept, and could help bring in fans who watched the old animated TV show, even though he seems like a less powered version of Jefferson Pierce, AKA, Black Lightning. A new female character would be welcome, but Boon seems to have eliminated Zatanna as an option, and Power Girl is already so similar to Superman. Doctor Fate is intriguing, but he's a much older character belongs with the WWII era JSA, not in the modern day setting Injustice takes place in. Ultimately, Swamp Thing offers up the best opportunity for the fans, as he could offer a vastly different play style, as well as a fan service to anyone miffed that Poison Ivy was never given a spot as a playable character. With his newfound role as the Ultimate Savior to Earth, his addition could involve him against Superman's dictatorial reign over the Earth.
Whether we'll see one of the characters from the poll make an appearance remains to be seen, as Boon has yet to reveal the exact results of the "unofficial" poll. Lobo is the most recent DLC character to have hit Injustice, and will soon be followed by Batgirl.
As for my own personal preferences, well, I had a few ideas...
