The teaser trailer for Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's final installment of their "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy entitled The World's End was released last week. The first two films were Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Staring the trilogy's team of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, The World's End focuses on a group of childhood friends who tries to repeat a legendary pub crawl that they failed at completing during their youth. Over the course of the night, the group eventually comes to realize that they're in the middle of an alien invasion. Pegg describes the film to USA Today as a buddy comedy with sci-fi elements.
"He's kind of like the specter of the past and somehow manages to manipulate a group of old friends whom he hasn't seen for a long time into coming with him on this crazy adventure. It becomes far more of an adventure than they really bargained for."
Edgar Wright will again serve as director whose last film was the polarizing comic adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World while Simon Pegg has become a mainstay in the Mission: Impossible franchise and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot including the upcoming release of Star Trek Into Darkness. Pegg told also told USA Today that though he's gained ground in Hollywood, his most well known work will be with Wright.
"The backbone of my body of work really has been my collaborations with Edgar Wright, and the things I'm known for most, really, even more than Star Trek I think is probably Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz," says Pegg
The two began their rise to geek culture royalty through the two season British sitcom Spaced in 1999. They would later collaborate on the breakout 2004 horror comedy Shaun of The Dead that would also serve as the first film in the "Three Flavours Carnetto" trilogy. Shaun of The Dead's follow-up would come in the form of the action comedy Hot Fuzz. Pegg and Frost would co-star in the Greg Mottola sci-fi comedy Paul in 2011.
The World's End is scheduled to hit theaters Aug. 23.
