Top 5 Netflix Films For The Weekend

Overwhelmed by the sheer size of Netflix films available? Allow us to help filter through the fluff with our weekly segment.

Indie Game: The Movie

Winner of the World Cinema Documentary Editing Award at last year's Sundance Film Festival, "Indie Game: The Movie" is the perfect documentary for anyone who calls themselves a gaming aficionado or just simply interested in game design. This James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot film tells the story behind three of gaming's most cherished indie works; "Braid," "Super Meat Boy," and "Fez." After viewing this, there's no doubt that one will have a deeper appreciation for not only those titles but, the work that goes into indie projects as a whole.

The Paperboy

Lee Daniels ("Shadowboxer" and "Precious") directs this thriller starting Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman in one of her most daring roles in years.  Based on the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter, "The Paperboy" tells the story of Ward (McConaughey) and Jack Jansen(Efron); two brothers seeking to exonerate Hillary van Wetter, man on death row played by Cusack. Kidman stars as Charlotte, a woman trying to prove Wetter's innocence. Decent story with superb acting.

Casa de mi Padre

Recent photos this week from the "Anchorman 2" set in Atlanta have been leaked so Will Ferrell fever is starting ramp up. Until then, Ferrell enters the world off Spanish telenovelas with this hilarious and clever spoof. Ferrell stars as Armando Alvarez, a cowboy trying to save his father's ranch from a powerful drug lord("The Motorcycle Diaries" Gael Garcia Bernal).

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

With news confirming that Tom Cruise will continue his role as Ethan Hunt in the untitled fifth "Mission: Impossible" film, it makes since to explore his most recent outing in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." Coming along for the ride is the Jeremy Renner ("The Avenger") as IMF secretary and Paula Patton being the kick-ass Jane Carter ("Jumping The Broom") who assist Hunt in proving their innocence after being framed for a bombing.

Thor

Now that "Iron Man 3" is out of the way, a certain sequel to the film that made Chris Hemsworth a star is next on the Marvel film schedule through "Thor: The Dark World." Those who missed out on "Thor" the first time can revisit it on Netflix. It'll be interesting to see most importantly, how Sir Kenneth Charles Brangah's direction compares to Alan Taylor's in the sequel.
