While Bethesda has already confirmed the next release in the Wolfenstein series – Wolfenstein: The New Order – for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and other next-gen consoles, there is still no mention as to which next-gen console the game will arrive on.
Bethesda has currently gone dark on the matter and the company hasn’t been specific about which next gen console the game will be on. The other question, via Twitter, is whether the Wii U can really be considered as a next gen console now since it’s already been in the market for some time now.
Pete Hines, vice president of Bethesda Softworks, had the following to say when asked about the possibilities of a Wii U version of the game:
“We (intentionally) aren't being specific on what platforms ‘next-gen’ covers. Stay tuned,” Hines writes on his official Twitter page.
It will be interesting to see how the Wii U version of the game (if one is eventually released on the platform) fits in with Bethesda’s financial plans, especially during a time when third-party developers aren't seeing much success on the Wii U.
Moreover, due to the fact that the console has such low software support, a number of well-known game developers have already opted out of supporting the Nintendo-based gaming console, including Dice, makers of the Battlefield franchise. So if Wolfenstein: The New Order ends up arriving for Wii U, it will be a major boost to the company and its aspirations of being a machine hardcore gamers could embrace.
Wolfenstein: The New Order will share the same id Tech 5 game engine with The Evil Within – an upcoming Survival Horror thriller title set to be published by Bethesda.
