Bethesda’s New Game Is Wolfenstein: The New Order; We've Got The Details [TRAILER]

Bethesda announced Wolfenstein: The New Order, the entry in the seminal first-person shooter series.

The new installment in the franchise is set to launch for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and next-generation consoles in Q4 2013. "The New Order is set in 1960 after the Nazis won World War II. Gamers play as the familiar American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz and are tasked with launching an impossible counter-offensive against the Nazi powers that have taken over the world," Gamespot reports.

The game is set in Europe and will feature players infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies. The players are charged with the task of taking control of the super weapons from the Nazi possession.

Earlier today, Bethesda posted a collage of three images on its official Twitter page with the hashtag #1960, which was followed by the appearance of two screenshots on Gamespot. The three images appeared on Gamespot were tagged with Z1960, Y1960, and X1960.

Bethesda later clarified that Bethesda Game Studios (BGS), creator of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, has nothing to do with this latest reveal with a tweet that said, "This morning's tease is not related to anything @BGS_Devs is working on." This clarification ruled out the chances of it being Fallout 4, which Bethesda is expected to announce sometime next month.

Bethesda's Wolfenstein game, codenamed 'Project Tungsten', was rumored to be in development at ZeniMax Sweden (formerly MachineGames). The studio was founded by former members of The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze before being acquired by Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media in 2010. The upcoming Wolfenstein game is believed to be built using id Software's idTech5 game engine.
