‘The Big Bang Theory’ Prequel Spinoff News & Updates: All-New Cast; Story To Focus On Young Sheldon Cooper

CBS is currently working on a prequel spinoff of "The Big Bang Theory." The story will focus on the young Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons).

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, together with showrunner Steve Molare will oversee the "The Big Bang Theory" spinoff. According to insiders, the upcoming "The Big Bang Theory" prequel is like "Malcolm in the Middle," with Cooper, who may appear as a teenager.

It will be a single-camera comedy, compared to the original show which follows a traditional multi-camera format. Parsons is also set to serve as producer, although none of the other original "The Big Bang Theory" cast members will be returning.

'The Big Bang Theory' Spinoff To Feature The Young Genius Sheldon Cooper

Variety wrote that the "The Big Bang Theory" prequel will center on the young genius, Cooper, growing up in Texas. Jim Parsons will not reprise his role. The new show is allegedly still in its early stages, with Molaro writing the script.

The actor who will play the lead role has yet to be announced. In the past 10 seasons of "The Big Bang Theory," several references have been made to Sheldon's background in Texas.

He has a religious mother, Mary, with prequel potentially featuring Laurie Metcalf, who played the part in the original series. There will be plenty of material to work with in the spinoff, considering Sheldon's history. "The Big Bang Theory" is written one episode at a time, instead of per season.

'The Big Bang Theory' Spinoff: Still No Comment From CBS & Warner Bros TV

The prequel is said to come with a huge penalty. CBS and Warner Bros Television refused to comment, and other details about the upcoming show are still being kept from the public. In the meantime, "The Big Bang Theory" is in its 10th season with no news of being renewed yet.

The original cast members are reportedly discussing a potential "The Big Bang Theory" Season 11 and more. According to sources, the cast are all looking for pay increases.

"The Big Bang Theory" is currently the most-watched comedy in the United States. The current season of "The Big Bang Theory" averages over 15 million viewers per episode.

The main trio - Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki are earning $1 million per episode at present, with each season consisting of 24 episodes. More updates and details on the "The Big Bang Theory" spinoff are expected soon.
