Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, News & Update: Google Pixel XL Specs Superior, But Samsung Cheaper; T-Mobile Samsung Security Update Weighs 80MB

Samsung Galaxy S7 reportedly increased sales post-Galaxy Note 7 incident. The Galaxy S7 is also said to be comparable to the new Google Pixel XL in terms of specs and internal parts. Furthermore, the Galaxy S7's cheaper price in comparison to the Pixel XL is also an added bonus.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Google Pixel XL feature water resistance, but the former has a higher resistance of IP68 rating while the latter is only splash and dust resistant. The Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1 inch while the Google Pixel XL boasts 5.5 inches but both include AMOLED technology with QHD resolution and Gorilla Glass 4. Both devices also run on Snapdragon 820 and 821, Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

Both the Google Pixel XL and Samsung Galaxy S7 have a non-removable battery with fast charging and a fingerprint sensor. In terms of the camera, the Galaxy S7 packs 12MP rear camera while the Google Pixel XL has a 12.3MP rear camera. The Google Pixel XL also runs on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box making it cost more than the Galaxy S7. On another note, the Google Pixel XL only has two storage options, a 32GB or a 128GB variant but the Galaxy S7 has an expandable memory, Hi-Res audio, a heart rate monitor and oxygen saturation sensor, Android Headlines reported.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile reportedly rolled out a new update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge handsets. The November security update will come as a G930TUVU4APK1 and G935TUVU4APK1 software version, respectively. The Android security patch weighs over 80MB.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 software update is said to take 10 minutes to finish. It should be noted that no calls, message or other apps will be accessible during the installation. As is typical with other OTA roll outs, the update is also said to take some time before it hits some devices but may manually be checked via the handset's Settings menu, GSM Arena reported.
