The Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection will not release on the Xbox 360 due to its huge game disc size, franchise creator Hideo Kojima says, according to a report.
"I'm sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn't being released, because an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 hasn't gone on sale," Kojima says during his online radio show (as translated by Kotaku). "To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous."
Justifying the move, the Metal Gear creator said Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released on Sony's Blu-ray disc, which can effectively store more data than a Xbox 360 DVDs. According to him, it would take as many as seven DVDs to hold the game as opposed to one dual-layer 50GB PlayStation 3 blu-ray disc.
However, Kojima did suggest that a release of Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection on the next-generation Xbox console is still a possibility. "When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it [presumably The Legacy Collection]," added Kojima. "If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it's not The Legacy Collection," he said.
Publisher Konami recently announced that it will release a Metal Gear Solid compilation that spans the entire franchise exclusively on PlayStation 3. The upcoming Legacy Collection, expected to be available in Japan in June, includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. The collection will also include two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels.
