A new MacBook Air is expected to launch sometime next year despite rumors that Apple has discontinued the lineup. According to several reports, the device, now dubbed as MacBook Air 2017, is slated to make a debut next year, probably in March.
At the moment, fans and tech experts are looking forward to the release of the new iteration of iPad Pro. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the iPad Pro and its possible successors that the idea of a new MacBook Air has been set aside. It is believed, yet still has to be confirmed, that Apple will discontinue the Air line of laptops. But latest reports suggest that it's still not the end of the laptop since a MacBook Air 2017 could debut alongside iPad Pro 2 in March.
The last major update to the MacBook Air was in 2015 and although it received an upgrade this year, it's not that significant. Apple already introduced the nee MacBook Pro 2016 last month, but news about MacBook Air 2017 has been left out. However, MacWorld UK reported that the 2016 minor upgrade could signal a bigger one in the future. In that case, a 2017 release is still possible for the MacBook Air.
Meanwhile, WCCFTech also agreed that MacBook Air 2017 is happening but the laptop is expected to be the last of the series. Apple didn't really give the current model an impressive update and there's not much the company can do to the device due to dimensional limitations, the report stated. With that said, MacBook Air's days of being the thinnest laptop could be over soon.
If indeed Apple releases MacBook Air 2017, the device is rumored to be lighter and thinner than the current model. Specs are likely to be improved; new batteries should be on board, as well as an enhanced chassis and a cooling module. The device could also have a USB Type-C connection.
For now, specs and features of the MacBook Air 2017 are purely based on speculation and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Fans should just wait for an official announcement from Apple. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for the latest updates.
