When it comes to Minecraft, Mojang's super popular block-building game, is there anything it can't do? We know it can be used to re-create World of WarCraft, the Reichstag and a cathedral. Now comes Oakland.
As part of an ongoing series on customization at the Oakland Museum of California the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment, known as The MADE, decided to re-create Oakland using Minecraft. After briefly considering creating something using Team Fortress 2, the idea was set aside because the game was too violent, Alex Handy, director of The Made writes. The catch? They gave themselves 10 days to do it in, an impressive feat. Judging by the pictures they've posted on Flickr, it looks like they'll make their deadline.
You can see the results on April 26-28 at the Oakland Museum of California. You can follow the artists progress on their web site here and on Flickr here.
