Nintendo confirmed during the November 2015 Nintendo Direct presentation that "Dragon Quest 7" and "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King" will make their way to the Nintendo 3DS this 2016. Unfortunately "Dragon Quest 8" has now been delayed and will be available on January 20, 2017 in North America and Europe.
Although "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King" is a graphical downgrade compared to the PS2 version however it has major new features coming to the Nintendo 3DS. According to GameRant, players can take pictures of the characters and the environment.
A character named Cameron Obscura will reward player for taking pictures of certain things like monsters and situations in the "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King". This feature should lend the game some added replay ability just like playing through on the PS2 and smartphones with iOS or Andriod.
The Nintendo 3DS version of "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King" will also include updates like more story content, full voice acting, two additional playable characters, new side quests and "Street Pass" functionality. The "Street Pass" is where the players can share their photos where they can add stickers, frames or filters, which can also be saved in an SD card.
According to Polygon, the updates will also include a fast forward or the "Speed Up" feature that will cut down time spent in random battles and also a quick save option. The quick save feature allows players to save and leave "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King" anytime they want.
Aside for "Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King", Square Enix is considering bringing more Dragon Quest games to the west if it sells well enough according to producer Ryota Aomi last summer. In a report by GameSpot, it said that they are looking to expand the game series in various facets. Furthermore, they won't be venturing out in North America, although they seem to want to focus more on Asia.
