If you love Sonic the Hedgehog's games and you're excited for the Sonic Mania due to be released on 2017, there is another big reason for you to be happy. During the celebration party of the 25th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog held at the San Diego Comic-Con, Sega presented the first of the many teasers of the Project Sonic 2017, a new game but shares some similarities with other Sonic Generations.
The game Project Sonic 2017 is being developed by the Sonic Team which is the same team that developed Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations which will be captained by the veteran Takashi Lizuka. During the launch, some participants including journalist thought that Project Sonic is a part of the Sonic Generations. Lizuka was quick to clarify that the new game is not a sequel to the Sonic Generations but a "new, standalone title".
So what can we expect from the Project Sonic 2017? What we know about the characters is that there will be a classic and modern Sonic the Hedgehog reunion, an unknown surprised character and an unidentified Giant Death Egg Robot destroying whole cities. Unlike the Death Egg in Sonic Generations, these new robots have has only one eye and shoots lasers while hovering around the city. Basing on the trailer, it seems that Eggman has somehow managed to be powerful and destroy cities since Sonic was shown fighting robots in a ruined city. The best part probably is the seeming mastery of Sonic Boost.
Project Sonic 2017 is set to be released on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is said to be also available for Nintendo's "classified" next generation gaming platform which is called Nintendo NX.
The Project Sonic 2017 release can lead to a "Sonic Renaissance" following a much needed boost due to the poor reputation generated by the recent releases. The trailer ends by encouraging gamers to join the resistance on the holiday of 2017.
