With "Iron Man 3" set to release in just a few short weeks, it seems like a lot of people have forgotten that Stark's fellow Avenger Thor is also featuring in his own sequel, which we should get our first real look at real soon. The movie's first trailer is set to hit the net sometime tomorrow according to Screen Crush.
Personally, I would've waited until Thursday to show the clip, (Thors-day...yes, I know it's a bit of a stretch) but I'm not a highly paid executive at Marvel.
ScreenRant was one of the first to offer a description of the trailer when Nigel Cook, vp of Marvel International, showed it at the Disney Consumer Show in Mexico, which we've re-posted here to help set the mood. No major spoilers, but there are some teases as to what's coming when the movie opens in November.
- Trailer opens with Thor's voiceover, as quick scenes of action are shown, along with Jane Foster in her Asgardian attire and people on Earth running from "something"
- Thor tells Jane he promised he would return and scenes are shown of Thor coming to Earth and taking Jane to back to Asgard.
- The action sequences are reportedly "incredible" and Thor is shown taking a beating. He's fatigued and Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves, is shown completely unafraid of Thor.
- A futuristic glass prison is shown, and Loki sits within after the events of The Avengers.
- Thor comes to him and says "I need your help, but if you betray me, I will kill you."
- Loki [smirking] responds: "What is it I must do?"
- Thor is shown fighting Malekith as Jane watches. Malekith threatens her, as a beaten Thor eyes the Dark Elf King and screams "Noooo!"
The majority of the cast from the first movie return to reprise their roles, Hemsworth and Hiddleston obviously, as well as Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, and others.
According to the official plot synopsis from Marvel:
"Marvel's Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel's Thor and Marvel's The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all."
Given the "Marvel Middle Earth" setting, we should get a better look at Thor's home realm of Asgard, as well as a few more worlds to boot. Check back here for the trailer on Tuesday.
