With the recent challenges that Samsung experienced with its Galaxy Note 7 line, the Korean-based tech company is looking forward to its new flagship phone. The Samsung S8 promises to feature innovative designs and technological enhancements such as a full-screen OLED display and VR device support.
Samsung is still reeling from the disappointing performance of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone product line. Amidst the product recalls and the huge profit loss, the tech giant has started hyping up its upcoming Samsung S8 phone.
Several reports have revealed the said unit's speculated features, however, a Samsung engineer has revealed some of the phone's planned enhancements specifically the changes to its display screen. In a recent iMiD 2016 display exhibition, Park Won Sang made mention of an enhanced full-screen display that is larger than previous smartphone models, The Investor quoted the engineer as saying.
Park, a principal engineer for Samsung's display manufacturing division, stated that 90 percent of the upcoming mobile phone's front panel will consist of the display screen. The said display area ratio is larger than the average 80 percent ratio observed in other smartphone units.
It appears that Samsung also has plans to extend its display area ratio to more than 90 percent. Future Samsung mobile phones will have a screen that will encompass 99 percent of the display panel, according to Park.
A full-screen display will also come in handy for users who will use the upcoming Samsung S8 device to watch videos or link it to VR devices. Viewing experience will be more enhanced and immersive especially with Samsung's head-mounted VR peripherals.
Meanwhile, Samsung executive Lee Jae Yong gushed over the upcoming Samsung S8's design and innovative features. In an earlier interview, he made mention of the camera enhancements that developers have added to the said unit, according to Forbes. The Samsung Vice-President even described the upcoming smartphone's design as "slick" given its edge-to-edge OLED screen.
The new Samsung S8 smartphone is expected for release in 2017. Learn about its features in the clip below:
