Next-generation console PlayStation 5 will be a lot better than the recently released PS4 Pro. This expectation from PlayStation fans all over the world is already circulating now even without a formal announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment.
2018 release date
Macquarie analyst Damian Thong predicted that the PS5 could come out in 2018. His speculation is also shared by other tech reporters who have been covering console releases in the pst like Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki.
When it comes out two years from now, the PlayStation 5 will be the rival of Microsoft's Project Scorpio. The Xbox offering is projected to be made available by the end of 2017.
Design and features
Speculation on its design reveal that it could either come in the same package as previous models. However, video gaming enthusiasts also think that there is a possibility for the PlayStation 5 to be as the size of a palm for easier grip.
PlayStation gamers are also hoping that Sony could do away with the disc drive since it has been introduced about two decades ago. However, there are still people who recognize the value of discs up to this age of digital media.
"Steam on PC has taught us that disc drives are becoming less and less necessary, but I can't see them being phased out completely for a while yet," said PlayStation Magazine former editor Ben Wilson. He noted that there will always be people who would prefer discs for their consoles.
Virtual reality gaming
In terms of VR capability, Sony is also encouraged to make the PlayStation fit for virtual reality gaming since it would be the hype when it comes out. Since the company has already introduced this technology on the PS4 Pro, it is likely that they will improve on virtual reality for the PlayStation 5.
