NASA Kepler Spacecraft Shows What Comet 67P Looks Like

NASA Kepler Spaceraft that carries the Rosetta mission that was launched in 2004, has reportedly concluded the research on the study of comet 67P, Churyumov-Gerasimenko on Sept. 30. The space probe finished as scheduled, including the controlled impact on the comet investigated for the past two years. Reports also indicate that the control center located in Darmstadt, Germany has lost signal during the space probe's impact.

The NASA Kepler Spacecraft studied the comet 67P in the final month of Rosetta mission's activity, closely examining the core and tail that were not detected from Earth. According to reports, the comet's images were taken every 30 minutes, creating an animation that shows a length of 29.5 hours beginning Sept. 17 to Sept. 18.

On the other hand, the K2 mission focused on comet 67P's core and tail beginning Sept. 7 to Sept. 20, which provides a background information seen from a significant distance. Also, the close-up focus of Rosetta mission in a high-resolution while at descent on the comet complements Kepler's findings, giving a complete image of the activity.

NASA Kepler Spacecraft was able to observe the comet while passing through the field of sight during the two-week study. According to reports, the diagonal strip indicates the spacecraft going from the top right to the bottom left. On the other hand, the white dots surrounding it are representation of stars including other formations that were investigated during K2's 10th campaign, according to report.

Meanwhile, NASA Kepler Spacecraft's goal to land and bring back astronauts on the Martian suface in 2030's has been reaffirmed by Pres. Barack Obama. Reports indicate that the President announced this through a patriotic op-ed for CNN, confirming as well that NASA partners with private corporations in order to fulfil this vision. The POTUS further explained that Martian exploration requires continued cooperation between the government and private innovators.

NASA Kepler Spacecraft's required hardware for space probe could be provided by private companies. In fact, the space agency has reportedly contracted with some private space launch companies to provide the equipment and supplies to the International Space Station, Seeker reported.
