Xbox Live Outage Finally Fixed: Problem Explained

Xbox Live, Microsoft's online gaming and social networking service for the Xbox 360, suffered an outage over the weekend. While the cause of the outage was unknown, rumors surfaced of an attack by the hacktivist group Anonymous.

Microsoft acknowledged there was a problem and that it had been fixed. The company's update read: “If you were one of the members who was having issues signing in to Xbox LIVE, good news! This issue has been fixed! Thank you so much for your patience during this time, feel free to go enjoy your favorite games and content!”

Last.fm, the music app, was the first to experience problems. Microsoft wrote of the service's problems: “Xbox members are experiencing problems playing music on the Last.fm app. We're working on a fix with our partners and will have the music back on as soon as possible! We'll update you with more information as soon as it becomes available. Thanks for your patience!”

In addition, Xbox Silver “Minecraft” users appear to be unable to create new saves or access existing ones for the game. Microsoft says it is working on a fix for the issue.

"If you're an Xbox Silver member having problems using existing or newly-created saves in Minecraft, please know we're working hard to fix this issue,” the company adds.

These kind of outages and poor explanations for why they happened don't bode well for Microsoft's rumored next Xbox which may be required to be always-online.
