‘Tyranny’ Release Date, News & Updates: More Details On Story Revealed, Alternate Stronghold Game Mode Confirmed?

Obsidian Entertainment has been hitting on all cylinders lately. The veteran game company set out to recreate the nostalgic experience of classic, isometric CRPGs to the modern day, and they have successfully done so. With acclaimed titles such as "Fallout: New Vegas" and the most recent "Pillars of Eternity," fans have been wondering what is next for Obsidian. "Tyranny" is next on the CRPG list, but fans do not know much about it besides surface details. With recent developments, more light has been shed on the project and is sure to produce more anticipation within the gaming community.

According to IGN, Obsidian has recently released some new details about the upcoming title. "Tyranny" will use the same engine as "Pillars of Eternity" and will retain the beautiful, hand-drawn backdrops and that nostalgic isometric angle that has become a signature for games like these. The game will also give gamers a unique experience by playing the villain of the game, and will allow players to dictate where the character ends up when the dust settles through major decisions within the game.

As far as the plot goes, Obsidian revealed what players can expect at the start of "Tyranny." Players will be introduced to the lore very quickly, as a small rebel force takes over a fort in the Tiers, a location in the game. The Overlord and main antagonist Kyros sends the player-character to deal with this situation and is ordered to quench this rebellion or exterminate the rebels through violent force.

This is where players' decisions make their impact felt. Throughout the game, players will face situations like this and will be given good or evil choices in order to further the story. The single-player experience looks to be shaping up well for "Tyranny," but can fans expect another game mode to be included in the game? Apparently, the answer is yes.

As per PC Gamer, "Tyranny" will include a mode called Spires where players will be able to obtain their very own stronghold. These strongholds, fittingly called Spires, will provide players with a wide range of customization and decision making. The player-built Spires will provide in-game benefits to the players depending on how they build their strongholds and what structures they choose to place inside of it. Spires will also attract recruits as they progress who will work in the service of the player-controlled party.
