Gamers and manga lovers surely know "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2" is out to make another blockbuster run that defined its predecessor as blockbuster title in 2015. However, it is good to step back a bit and wonder how this new iteration can make up for tons of Dragon Ball merchandise to the point that some even bastardized the original beloved franchise.
Starting with the storyline of "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2," not much could be said here because it simply follows the plot of the original Xenoverse. The protagonist should join Time Patrol to save the universe from hyper-powered galactic bad guys. There are different races to choose from while building up the first character; Humans, Saiyans, Nemek, Majin, among others.
According to Attack of the Fanboy, characters are highly-customizable as body built and hair can be chosen, down to smallest details like eyes to colorway of equipment and gears. The downside of "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2" is lack of support to import original character from previous game. Meaning, everything has to start from scratch.
Overall, game mechanics and strategy in "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2" could be safely presumed as copy-pasted version of the original. Push Square suspects that this is due to developer's decision to simply round up all issues from the original and deploy fixes in this new version. A safe move instead of overhauling the game and making an entirely fresh start.
So what are the consolations awaiting those willing to relive the experience in "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2?" Think of better loot system where the character can easily level up to qualify for endgame challenges. Further, there are vast arrays of new skins and skill tree compared to previous game. All of these areas provide synergy to the whole game for faster progression.
Now to wrap up our thoughts about "Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2," this one is not a whole new adventure nor experience. It is much better fit to say that old gamers will notice changes in progression, costumes and even skills but not gameplay. On the other hand, new gamers can play this title without feeling that you missed a part in the first Xenoverse.
