The ex-wife of former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle, Katie McLaughlin, filed a lawsuit against the sandwich chain. She claimed that the company knew about Fogle's interest in minors as early as 2004 and has failed to act on it. McLaughlin sued Subway to seek unspecified damages because she has questions which she hopes to get answers from the lawsuit she's filing.
In a statement at a press conference that ABC News reported, McLaughlin said that there were no investigations ever conducted and that Subway never notified any authorities. Jared Fogle, plead guilty and is currently serving 15 years in federal prison. Fogle worked with subway from 2000 to 2015 but was arrested for the possession of child pornography and traveling across the state lines to engage unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Katie McLaughlin filed for divorced after Jared Fogle pleaded guilty of the incident. The claims of the lawsuit to Subway obtained by People, includes that her two children was suffering from emotional distress. The behavior of Fogle was not publicly known before McLaughlin married him in 2010, they have a 3-year old and a 5-year old.
The ex-wife also wanted to give her children some answers when they ask in the future. Katie McLaughlin said that finding out that your husband and the father of your children is a child predator is very devastating. She also gave her thoughts and prayers for the victims of Jared Fogle.
McLaughlin was a former elementary school special ed teacher and she claimed the Subway allowed Jared Fogle to continue his work as a spokesperson. As a spokesperson he can easily have contact to many children.
McLaughlin's lawyers told ABC news that she is not currently receiving any compensation from Subway or support for her two children with Jared Fogle. As of writing, Subway has yet to issue a comment on the matter.
