Last year's newcomer hybrid laptop from Microsoft totally changed the playing field. With the Surface Book already a year old, when will the second iteration, Microsoft Surface Book 2 be released?
Expected Release Date
Being the latest official addition to the Surface lineup, the Surface Book shook the grounds of laptop computing technology when it was released last year. However, as good as the last one may be, it is already a year old. The rumor mill has now been churning with reports on when the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be released.
There have been talks saying that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be launched at the Microsoft event later this month. The tech company is set to unveil new hardware and software on the 26th of October. The roster of devices to be released may just as well be including the much anticipated Microsoft Surface Book 2. If this turns out to be true, it is highly likely that it will be sharing the spotlight with fellow hybrid device Surface Pro 5 and the new Surface Phone.
Improved Hinge System?
Perhaps the greatest update to the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is in the hardware division. Not much could be criticized from the already premium build of the original Surface Book.
However, as great of a feature it might be, the hinge system of the original hybrid laptop leaves a relatively huge gaping hole when the device is folded. This could cause dust, lint, and other small objects to make it inside the device and potentially harm the device. This hinge system is reportedly changed and improved on the Microsoft Surface Book 2.
Specs and Release Details
Additional specs and features of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Book 2 include the highly anticipated Kaby Lake processor from Intel, at least 8GB of RAM, and 1 Terabyte of internal storage. It will be powered by the Windows 10 Redstone update, and will have an enhanced GPU for better performance.
The predicted retail price is at $1400 for the base model, with incremental increase per tier upgrade. There are also discounts and bundles expected upon the official launch of the Microsoft Surface Book 2.
