The official trailer for "Logan" is out. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), however, was shown in a completely different light. In the video for Wolverine's third solo film, the protagonist was shown very much older.
The world has changed and most mutants are gone on "Wolverine 3: Logan." He was also with Charles Xavier, or Professor X (Patrick Stewart), who also appeared at a more advanced age.
The years seem to have taken a toll on both of them, as they seemed to be struggling physically and emotionally. The "Wolverine 3: Logan" video also featured a young mutant who looked much like X-23, Logan's female clone and the star of the current Wolverine comic series by Marvel.
Previously, a "Wolverine 3" poster surfaced, showing the character holding the hand of the young girl in the trailer. Director James Mangold also tweeted a photo of a very old Professor X. The rest of the "Logan" teaser showed Wolverine in action, showing that the producers did not hold back on the violence. Boyd Holbrook was featured as the new potential main villain.
Deadline reported that in "Wolverine 3," Holbrook will play Donald Pierce, a relentless and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is keen on going against Logan. Pierce was also revealed to be a cyborg with extraordinary abilities.
It is still uncertain whether he will eventually turn out to be a familiar character from the comics. There are rumors that the big baddie in "Wolverine 3" will be Wolverine's long-time nemesis, Omega Red. Holbrook is best known for his appearance in the Netflix series "Narcos."
The Verge noted that the new "Wolverine 3" teaser hinted that "Logan" will loosely be based on the 2008 series "Old Man Logan," written by Mark Millar. In the comics, several years have gone by and Logan is trying to live quietly with his family, but he is finding difficulty to get by. Subsequently, a job requires him to use his claws and mutant abilities once again and he encounters old friends and enemies.
Hugh Jackman will reprise his role in "Wolverine 3," which will most likely be for the last time. "Logan" is set to hit theaters on Mar. 3, 2017. More updates and details are expected soon.
