NBC's surprise breakout drama "This is Us" Season 1 has gotten off to a great start, as it debuted to strong viewership and universal acclaim. Part of that success is the several tricks and twists it managed to pull off, such as the shocking reveal in the second episode that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) ends up with Miguel (Jon Huertas) in the 2010s timeline. While it may be difficult to imagine the picture-perfect Rebecca and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) going any other way, what possible reason could there be for the "This is Us" lead couple to break up in the future?
Clues to Jack's fate on 'This is Us'
"This Is Us" Season 1 Episode 2 had first explored Rebecca and Jack's life as a couple in the 1980s timeline: their hardships and unspoken troubles about each other as they tried to raise their kids. Jack's best friend, Miguel, had warned him to stop taking his wife for granted or she'll realize that she's out of his league. During the final moments of "This is Us" Season 1 Episode 2, when Rebecca's grandkids called for their grandfather in the 2010s timeline, it's Miguel, not Jack, who appeared.
This shocking reveal had sent several "This is Us" fans on a tailspin as they tried to guess what happened to Jack. The first, and most popular, theory is that Jack died, since Rebecca was still wearing the moon necklace she gave him, while her three kids all referred to him in the past tense. It's possible that he had died from his alcoholism, which was explored during the "This is Us" Season 1 Episode 2.
Other theories about Jack
Another popular theory on "This is Us" Season 1 is that Jack and Rebecca were divorced. After all, Rebecca missed telling Jack that she had met with Randall's (Kyle, played by Sterling K. Brown) biological father. This could have caused friction between the couple and led to their eventual divorce.
"This is Us" Season 1 airs every Tuesday, 9 p.m. on NBC. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more "This is Us" Season 1 spoilers, news and updates!
