Everyone was shocked when it was announced that the theatrical release of "Divergent 4" is cancelled and it looks like the planned TV movie will also now be out of the table. The dystopian movie franchise, adapted from the young adult novel series of the same name by Chicago writer Veronica Roth, struggled in the box office with its third entry so the "Divergent 4" TV movie was the avenue executives found just to push through with the film.
It can be recalled that, according to Entertainment Weekly, the TV movie will also serve as a launch pad for a possible TV series spin off for "Divergent 4." However, that news may be no longer be true as "Divergent 4" may not happen at all.
According to reports, executives are said to be not pleased with star Shailene Woodley's arrest as they believe it can be negative publicity for "Divergent 4." According to Buzzfeed, Woodley was earlier arrested during a protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The "Fault In Our Stars" actress is an outspoken supporter for indigenous rights and the Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders so her protest was not a surprise. The executives, however, are hesitant about doing "Divergent 4" as it has been rocked with negative news after negative news.
Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment are still trying to negotiate which network "Divergent 4" will be aired so the "Divergent 4" release date is still not known as of the moment. Should there be any more updates on whether there will be a "Divergent 4," GameNGuide will be posting more about it in the next few days.
