EA returned the ability to clothe your soldier characters with Battlepacks from "Battlefield 4" and "Battlefield Hardline," but in the World War I FPS "Battlefield 1," the packs will include weapon skins and cool new melee weapons. This is a departure from what Battlepacks did in those aforementioned games.
According to Games Radar, not only will the Battlepacks in "Battlefield 1" give out melee weapons and weapon skins, but they'll also allow players to build their own weapons. However, it's still not confirmed as to whether these custom-made weapons will be more powerful or have different effects than the weapons you can normally get in the game. What is known, though, is that players will be able to write their own flavor text for the weapons they build, just like in "Destiny."
Why do Battlepacks give weapons in "Battlefield 1?" Simple: it's because melee weapons play a big role in this game, more than they do in other FPS titles. Developers EA DICE has taken great pains to make sure that melee combat in this game is dynamic and exciting, reports say, making them a viable way to play the game. A player wielding a knife can utilize it differently than they would, say, a bayonet or a club, and that variety makes for a more interesting experience.
How does one earn Battlepacks in the game? All you have to do is keep playing "Battlefield 1" multiplayer mode, similar to "Overwatch" Loot Boxes. It's not clarified, though, whether players can opt to buy Battlepacks using in-game or real-world currency, but it most likely will be the case. The "Battlefield 1" Premium Pass for those who bought it already gets you four of them. "Battlefield 1" is scheduled for release on October 21 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
