Silence has surrounded Eidos' development of a new "Thief" game for years now. Today, shots manage to leak out onto Russian site VK.com. While interesting, no official information appears alongside them, leaving fans with little to go on.
However, it's since been revealed that if information is what you seek, then keep your eyes on the newstands for the next issue of Game Informer. It was revealed earlier today that the new game is set to be a cover story in the April issue. It will be an exclusive look at the title, in which series' hero Garrett "returns to the Gothic, industrial metropolis known simply as the City to steal any and everything that will make him richer," read a summation.
It looks like a console upgrade will be in order if you want to play the upcoming stealth title. According to GI, "Square Enix plans to release Thief for PS4 and PC sometime in 2014, but the game is also planned for other next-gen consoles."
It was speculated the new game would be "Thief 4," or "Thi4F," but somewhere Eidos dropped the 4 somewhere along the lines, and the game seems to be a reboot, rather than a full on sequel.
Hallmarks like stealth, lockpicking are hinted at returning, as "Garrett will have to pay attention to his environment and make use of the may possible paths through each of the game's levels."
No new game mechanics were mentioned, but fans will see what "Thief" will have to offer when the April issue of Game Informer hits in the next two weeks.
